Coach: Hi, everybody. It’s Coach Collard once again. Thanks for being here. I happen to have the opportunity to be the host again today for the Flipnerd REI Classroom. Thanks for being here. Guys, as we get started, I want to share with you the keys to success in real estate is a constantly changed mindset.
Mike: This REI Classroom real estate lesson is sponsored by Flipnerd Investor Coaching, your blueprint to investing success.
Coach: Or to be constantly changing your mindset. I know everybody talks about mindset, but I also know as a coach full-time coaching people in real estate that not everybody hears it, but they don’t understand it. Let me break down some absolute simplicity today about maximizing your success through a focus on the key of changing your mindset constantly, how important it is.
Historically, you read books from Napoleon Hill and things and he has quotes in there that say, “As a man thinks in his heart so shall he be.” Well, that’s not a think in your brain. That’s a think in your heart, which is your subconscious. Your subconscious is like a tortilla machine. It spits out whatever you put in it. The key to it is that it’s subconscious. It’s not something you’re aware of here. So when you study yourself, you think you want to do something here, but you believe something different in here and so it’s hard to manifest because whatever you believe is going to manifest.
So what I’ve done over the years is constantly work to change my mindset. You do that, simple things, guys. You listen to material and you read and you feed your mind. You exchange ideas with other people that are like-minded like yourself that are looking to do what you’ve done or do what you’re doing. Or, maybe you find people that have already done what you’re looking to do and you mimic them. You get around them and you build the mindset around them. I know everybody’s heard this before, not everybody believes it, but you’re a sum total of the five people closest to you. Your income looks like theirs. You dress like them. You talk like them. You come to manifest what you’re around all the time. So it’s really important to be aware of that.
Now, everybody doesn’t know this and I’m not here to preach. Back in the day, I served as a Spanish pastor volunteer down in Phoenix for five years. It was purely a volunteer position. But I got a hold of a scripture in the New Testament. It was my favorite scripture. It said, “Be not conformed to this world or everybody else,” what I like to call the sheeple, “Don’t be conformed to the sheeple, but be transformed by renewing your mind, constantly making your mind new.” Then, when you do that, you’re open to new ideas, you’re open to new possibilities and you don’t get into these little things called ruts. So I think you guys hear me. Again, I don’t want to preach.
Let me shift to the best example in the history of mankind of how important mindset is. I’m going to say this to you. I believe mindset’s 90% of everything that you’re doing and only 10% is the actual activities that you do. Back in November of 2009, I believe it was, there’s a young man named Eldrick “Tiger” Woods. He happened to have a little situation in his personal life at his $36 million estate that he had down in Florida. That particular night, he got in his car, drove off and he didn’t make it out of the community. He ended up having a golf club all the way through his window.
Now, we can make up stories about what happened and this and that, but literally that day, before that happened, he was the number one golfer in the world and there’s nobody that can dispute that. The next day, he was no longer the number one golfer in the world. Literally, over the coming months, not only did he take time off to get healed in his physical body, but he tried to come back and play a little golf and he couldn’t. Seven years later, today in 2016, pretty much November, we’re almost exactly 7 years, he’s not made it back to the top.
My question to you is this, and it’s just simple flat here. If mindset’s not the most important thing, then how did Tiger Woods get shifted and what happened to him? Let’s say it’s November 28, 2009, to the next day, did he forget how to play golf? Did he just, “I can’t swing anymore”?
No, what he did is he got exposed internally. His belief system got rocked and shook publicly. He got exposed and he lost his confidence. Your confidence is your mindset, my friends. If you don’t renew your mindset, if you don’t constantly change your thinking, your attitude, and get out of yesterday’s ruts, you’re going to find yourself in a position. I’ve been there as well. I think a lot of people that have had success, we’ve been there and that’s happened to us.
But it’s really important. Tiger Woods didn’t forget how to play golf. He lost his mindset. I believe it’s the perfect example for you as a real estate investor to continually and constantly sharpen your brain, sharpen your mind, renew your mind and make sure your mindset is about abundance, possibility and wealth building.
Guys, I’m going to cut it short there. I hope you guys got crushed with value. That’s always one of my commitments. I’m honored to be here as part of Flipnerd’s REI Classroom. We’ll see you soon. Again, it’s Coach Collard, signing off. Thanks.
