Mike: Welcome back to the flipnerd.com REI Classroom where experts across the real estate investing industry teach you quick lessons to take your business to the next level. And now, let’s meet today’s expert host.
Jon: Hey everybody. Jon Iannotti here again with your next FlipNerd classroom class. And today we’re going to talk about marketing.

Jon: And Mark, one of the things I like to tell everybody is, 98% of this business is marketing. So, if you’re not marketing for looking for your buyers or if you’re looking for sellers, you’re not in business in this business. You have to brand yourself. You have to get everybody out there knowing what you do, that you buy houses, that you sell them, you rent to own them, you lease option them, whatever. If you don’t have your message out there, nobody knows what you’re doing.
If you can probably . . . I don’t know, you can probably see even my shirts have . . . that I buy houses on it with my website on it. My vehicles all are marked up with vinyl lettering. So when I’m going down the street everybody knows what I do. My jackets, on the back of them, they all have that we buy houses and our website and phone number. You know, I love it when guys, they wear everything but their own advertising. They’ll advertise Chevy, or Ford, or a college, or Coca-Cola, or Harley Davidson. Those places don’t need you to market for them. We need them to market for us. And if we can be out there marketing with our materials and everything that we do has our website and our phone number on it and our message, our unique proposition, then people know that you’re in business.
But if you’re just wearing regular clothes and you’re not handing out information, you’re not putting it on your vehicles, you don’t have signs out there, you don’t do anything on the internet, you’re not in business. And really, this business does require a lot of marketing. Now, just because I say it takes 98% of the time, of your time, to market, doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money to market. There’s so many things out there you can do that are inexpensive or free to get your marketing out there.
You know, my shirts, I mean it cost me under $10 to get my shirt lettered up with my message, and my website, and my phone number. You know, the vehicle, you can take that to a sign shop and get vinyl lettering put on your vehicle for a hundred bucks. It’s not much. And then, it just keeps giving. So the internet, the internet’s free. So, you can put marketing out there all over the place as well. You know, print ads, there again, you can do a lot of that printing yourself and save a lot of money. But you’ve got to hand it out, you’ve got to post it, you’ve got to get it out there.
So, again, marketing is key to your business. It is the life blood of your business. You have to market all the time. And if you’re not marketing, you’re just not in business in real estate. So, once again, Jon Iannotti here talking about 98% of the time you should be marketing to bring in your buyers and your sellers. And believe me, if you do that, people will take notice and you’ll get your deals done because you’re going to be flooded with deals. But you have to let people know that you’re in business.
