What’s up, guys. Hey, I have a very special guest for you today. It is actually me. I think it’s first solo show I’ve done on the “Investor Fuel Mastermind” show. Today, I want to talk to you about the power of events. I have events everywhere around me, I host tons of events, I attend lots of events, and it’s a really powerful tool if you are an experienced investor already.
Professional real estate investors know that it’s not really about the real estate. In fact, real estate is just a vehicle for freedom. A group of over 100 of the nation’s leading real estate investors from across the country meet several times a year at the Investor Fuel Real Estate Mastermind to share ideas on how to strengthen each other’s businesses but also to come together ask friends and build more fulfilling lives for all of those around us. On today’s show, we’re going to continue our conversation of fueling our businesses and fueling our lives. I’m glad you’re here.
Okay, guys. So let’s talk about events. Just the power of them. So, if you . . . let me preface this by a couple of things. If you are already an experienced investor, you’re already doing at least a couple of deals a month, if you can’t, sometimes what happens is people can’t attend events because they’re too busy. They’re too busy and I going to be honest with you. If you’re too busy to pull yourself out to attend a couple of events a quarter, then you are not a business owner, you still have a job. And you need to attend those events if they’re the right events. We’ll talk about that in a second, more than you know.
So I will say it’s a little dreary day here. It’s the first time I’ve done a show myself with just me as the host and the first thing time I think I’ve done it in my car. I do some FlipNerd ones in my car but it’s little rainy right now. So I apologize for the darkness and the rainy-ness if you can see all that.
So I just got back from an event. My buddy, Matt Andrews, who is one of the founding members of Investor Fuel hosts an event once a year with a guy named Ross Hamilton from connected investors called Family Reunion. And Family Reunion it’s an event for online marketers. So it’s really kind of a who’s who list of all of the top marketers in the world that you know primarily in the real estate investing space. And some of these guys go back decades, some of them are guys like Joe McCall, Sean Terry, a whole bunch of the guys that you would expect are there and then even like Ron LeGrand was there, the granddaddy of real estate investing. He’s been operating for almost four decades I think so.
So just they’re about 160 people at the top really kind of marketers, infomarketers, coaches, mentors, people in that space and it’s just an amazing opportunity for me because I’m in the marketing space to get together with people and just sharpen your tool like learn about little nuggets. And of course, we host our Investor Fuel events four times a year. In fact, our next event, our Q4 event is actually next week.
So let me go back to the event that I just left. And actually, I am literally in a parking lot. I’m about to host an event for my coaching students. An all-day event that I do once a month called Fly in Friday for our coaching students. And it’s a little mini mastermind, if you will, for our coaching students. Just a lot of Q and A helping get their questions answered.
But what I found is when you pull yourself out of your daily mix because it’s just so easy to think, “My day is not going to be too bad.” You get to the office or you start working and next thing you know the day is gone and you might have had some strategic things that you wanted to work on but something happened, something came up, water heater burst. Whatever can happen will happen, you know this if you’re an experienced investor. And next thing you know weeks and months like that go by where you don’t really get to those little strategic things.
And as a real estate investor, the truth is, is for, and I felt this way for many, many years and hopefully, you’ll recognize what I’m talking about here. And if you don’t, you probably have an issue that you need to recognize this is we pick up bad habits. We are constantly pivoting in this business trying to make things work and turn lemons into lemonade, all that stuff. We’re constantly pivoting.
Now, what happens is you pick up bad habits. You start to convince yourself and you hadn’t even know it that this is how we have to do things now or somebody moved my cheese and so I’m going to start doing this, I’m going to start doing that and you just pick up bad habits. And the truth is, is if you don’t pull yourself out of the daily mix, out of the daily grind, then you never really realize it. You don’t get to hear somebody else talking about it and be like, “Oh, man. I used to do that. Why don’t I do that anymore?” Or “I’ve been doing that too and I don’t know why. That’s dumb. It’s a waste of my time,” or whatever.
So what I found is events are a chance to get away to surround yourself. And it has to be the right event, right? Surround yourself with people like you and ideally, some people there for sure that are more advanced than you so you can continue to learn and escalate and see what they’re doing and try to reach to another level, not to compete with them but just to compete with yourself. Raise the bar on yourself, raise the bar on some of your goals and get past with the challenges you’re having. And then truthfully, it’s an opportunity to just think a little bit more strategically about your business.
And so events are super powerful for me. I attend lots of other people’s events like the one I just attended. By the way, this was a little pat on the back to myself. Totally unexpected and I don’t know how this happened but I won my award for “Marketer of the Year” which is an amazing feat like in any room for me because I’ve been working hard and trying to hone my craft. The truth is I feel like I am just scratching the surface of some of the things I would like to do from a marketing standpoint, on my marketing standpoint but in the room of the top infomarketers really in the world in the real estate space, it was just an amazing thing. It was really cool.
And so I guess that’s another thing I would say about events is you have a chance to give back and share what’s working for you and that benefits other people. And all that stuff just gets with the more you give, the more you get.
So we see the same thing at, like I said, I’m about to go into something I call Fly in Friday. It’s a full-day coaching event that we do every month, and we stream it live in our Facebook group for those that don’t want to attend and coaching students from all over the country can fly in and drive in from wherever they’re at. And in that room, I’m more of a coach. I am the most experienced person in the room and they’re there to talk to me but they’re also there to meet each other.
So I’m very big on community. Everything I do is putting people together because truthfully, they answer each other’s questions. And sometimes people in a coaching situation learn more from one another than they do from me. And that’s why I do it and I’m totally cool with that. I don’t think that I’m all knowing. I learn from my coaching students every day.
But if you have an opportunity like that, the opportunity for them to come in and learn from one another, get their questions answered in a short period of time. And again, it’s the event thing. If we’re on the phone for 10 minutes or we do a Zoom meeting for 45 minutes or a half hour or an hour, you can’t iterate your questions. You have a question and got answered, and then the meeting is over and you like, “Oh, crap. Well, I came up with another question based off of the way that was answered.” So events are powerful. Events are powerful in that regard.
And then of course, our Investor Fuel mastermind is unlike anything else. Next week we’re going to have about 180 real estate investors from across the country that come together and they’re split up a little bit during the week but on Wednesday, they’ll all be together. And it’s just an amazing, amazing group of people that get together and just help one another. They’re there probably more to help than to get help. And in the process of helping, they get all the help they need. And we have a group that very much cares for one another, helps one another.
And if you’re not a part of a group like that, of course, I’m very partial to Investor Fuel and that’s this show. I would love for you to check out Investor Fuel if you haven’t. But we have a group that is unlike anything you’ve ever heard of or seen if you’re not a part of it now. And for me as the leader of that group, I will tell you that we’re very careful of who we let into that group. We’re very protective of that group because we have a family atmosphere and people are . . . this is my second family and for a lot of people. This is like a reunion every quarter to come see the rest of their family. So we’re very protective of that.
So another thing to consider when you’re looking at groups is do they let just anybody in this thing? If you could fog a mirror and you’re willing to pay, will they let you in or do you have to have accomplished certain things in your business? And not only do you have to have accomplished certain things in your business, we’re looking for people that culturally fit our mold, that they’re givers, they care about other people, and if they work hard and they take personal responsibility and a number of things like that. So the truth is, is that real estate investing, I’ve said this many times is that it’s a lonely business. It’s a lonely business. You get out there in the foxhole, you’re fighting for your family, you’re fighting for building something bigger than you, ultimately. And when you get around other people like that, boy, it inspires you to take things to a whole nother level so.
So that’s what I want to talk to you about today was events and how powerful they are. And I’m not talking about some fly by night seminar gurus coming to town. Those things are dinosaurs, they still exist. And if you’re watching this show, you’re probably an experienced real estate investor so you already know that. But there are a lot of great events out there. There’s a lot of people doing great events that are teaching . . . from a mastermind perspective, I’d love for you to check out Investor Fuel if you’re watching this and you’re not already a member.
But there’s some great events that help you with other parts of your business. Like Gary Harper does a lot of stuff about training COOs and getting your processes and systems in order as a business. And so there’s specialty events out there that help you hone your craft on certain areas of your business. And a lot of times the best way to find out about those is at a place like Investor Fuel because we have the thought leaders and highly respected investors that are experts in all of these areas. And so a lot of times we come in and there’s a little offshoots that happen, spinoffs or other things that not that they were spun off but they exist previously.
But when you come into the whole group, you get filled on a lot of what you need and then you need a little bit of extra so you go . . . it’s like my son is going to . . . he’s not playing basketball right now but he’s going through a basketball skills camp because that’s what he needs. So every area of our life is like that. We find little things and we zoom in on how to get more of what we need.
So that’s all I’ve got for now. I don’t want to rant on this too much. I appreciate you a ton. If you’re watching this show, I assume that you’re an experienced investor. And if we haven’t talked yet, reach out to us, reach out to me. I’d love to talk to you and get to know you a little bit better. You can find on social media at Mike Hambright and Instagram even @themikehambright. I got a new profile there that we’re working on blowing up.
But I’d love to talk to you if you’re an experienced investor, see how we might be able to help you out. And again, check out some of these high-quality events. They can help you in your business. Don’t be afraid to invest in yourself. You’re the best. If you invest in anything, you should be willing to invest in yourself because an investment in yourself is an investment in your business and your family and your future and your legacy and all those things. So check out some events that are coming up. If you need any connections, just let me know. I’m happy to help yourself. So have a great day. Appreciate you a bunch. Take care.
