Mike: Welcome back to the REI Classroom, where experts from across the real estate investing industry teach you quick lessons to take your business to the next level. And now, let’s meet today’s expert host.

Andy: What’s up, everyone? My name is Andy McFarland and today I’m going to be your host for the REI classroom. And the topic for today is, “Done is the new perfect.”

Andy: So you’re probably wondering what I mean by “done is the new perfect.” Here is what I mean. In the real estate world, there are a lot of people that do education. And education is not a bad thing. It’s a good thing. You need to get educated, but the most important thing is taking action on that education.

Now, a lot of people get tripped up over it and say, “Well, I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.” So they want to research everything and find out what exactly the right path is. But let me give you a secret, guys: there’s not one right path. But the right path for you is taking action and implementing anything, anything it is you think you want to do in the real estate space. If you’ve learned about it, and somebody’s doing it successfully, and it seems interesting to you take action on that, start moving toward that.

And you say, “Andy, but it’s not going to be perfect. I want to make sure I do all of my research before I dive in anything. I want to make sure I don’t make any mistakes.” Let me tell you, you’re going to make mistakes, but here’s the thing, your learning is going to start when you start taking action. So what I tell you guys is this: done is the new perfect.’ Just get out there and start doing something. Because you are going to start in one vein and as you go down this road, you’re going to adjust as you go. It’s not going to be perfect when you start, but I guarantee you, you’re going to move towards perfection as you start taking action and working towards things.

When I started my real estate career, I had no idea what I didn’t know. But now that I’ve been moving forward towards things, I recognize what I’m good at, I recognize how to do wholesale deals now, how to do buy and hold properties now, how to do fix and flip properties now. But it’s all because I started. So my encouragement to you is to remember, done is the new perfect. Do something. Take action because that is where your learning starts.
