What’s up, everybody? Hey, welcome back to the “Real Estate Investing Secrets” show. Today, I want to talk to you about the importance of surrounding yourself with success, surrounding yourself with others that are successful.

What’s up, everybody? Hey, today, I want to talk to you about the importance of surrounding yourself with successful others, surrounding yourself with the success, right, what you want to do more of. And I want to give you a couple of examples, a couple of thoughts, and share how critical this is to your own success. So I want to give you . . . so first off, right now, we’re planning, in two days from now, we are hosting the Million Dollar Meeting here in Dallas. Now, a lot of you may not have known about that, but it’s an event that we’re hosting for accomplished real estate investors to help them take their business to the next level. So I know a number of the people that are coming. These are people that are already doing 40, 50, 60-plus deals a year. A couple of people are doing 100, 150 deals a year and are looking to take their business to the next level. And we’re aimed to try to help them do that.
So we have a speaker lineup that’s kind of a who’s who list of some of the top, I guess, industry leaders and real estate investors in the country. And there’s about 14 speakers, including myself. And you could look it up, milliondollarmeeting.co. The truth is, by the time you’re watching this, the event will be over. And it’s the first time we’ve done this event. Not sure if we’ll do it again next year or not, but it’s one of those things that I just wanted to pull off, something that is just world-class. So it’s under 100 people, very exclusive, really aimed at helping those that are already successful by most standards but taking to another level and getting them in a room with the right people to do that. So this is why this is top of mind, because this event, we’re going to change some lives this week, and I say that because it’s 100% true. Like, there are people that are coming there that I already know that they’ll walk out of there and literally double their business within the next 90 days on that trajectory, for sure, just by some little bitty nuggets from being around the right people.
So as you sit here and you listen to this or you watch this video, if you’re watching me right now, I want that for you too. So I just want to give you some tips to kind of move in that direction and how important it is. The reality is, depending on where you are in your career or in your business, it’s really easy to get distracted. If you’re trying to do this part time and you have a job, it’s really easy for things to get a little bit tough and for you to just focus more on work, focus more on other things. It’s really easy for us to get talked out of our dreams by our friends or family members because, let’s face it, no matter how much you love somebody that you’re around, a lot of people will pull you down. You know, there’s a couple of parables that I could give. I won’t go into detail right now.
But the truth is, even subconsciously, people are afraid of your success. And it’s not that they don’t want you to be successful, what they’re really more worried about typically is how bad it will make them look if they don’t take the same types of risks that you do. Like, what if you are successful, how does that make them look? And consciously, a lot of people don’t think about this, but the truth is that is exactly what’s going on. They’re like, “Wow, well, you’re taking a lot of risks. That sounds like you’re trying to make something of yourself. What does that say for me that just likes to watch TV and go to happy hour every other night, right, and do nothing, make no investment of myself?” And so that’s what we’re talking about here today.
It’s critical that you find a way to get yourself around people that are performing at a high level of what you want to do. And if you’re just getting started, for example, you can’t do that. You can’t just contact somebody out of the blue and just say, “Hey, can I come pick your brain?” I promise you, I get those emails and those requests all the time, and I used to say, “Sure, let’s meet for coffee. Let’s go meet for lunch. Let’s do that.” The truth is there’s not enough time in a day for me to have free meetings with people that want to just pick my brain and may or may not ever use that information. And so, unfortunately, I’m at a point at my business and a lot of people that I surround myself with, where the way you get access to them is by going to events, maybe going into a coaching program, maybe working for them, or something like that, finding some way to joint venture with them, something that adds value to them.
And it’s not because they are greedy and they’re like, “Sure, you have to pay me if you want to be around me.” But the truth is we’ve just kind of found that if you pay, you tend to pay attention, and the truth is whenever I do things for people that are free, including my friends and family members, I say, “I’m going to give you this program that people pay tens of thousands of dollars for access to this information that only people that paid a lot of money for,” and I give it away for free, then they don’t even pay attention. It’s like they don’t even have it. And it’s because they’re just not invested in it.
I want to give you a little bit of an analogy here of something I have. We have a French bulldog named Max. Great, great, great little dog, but he does not bark. If somebody was breaking into our house, with shotguns and crowbars, he would literally lick them. There might be a little bit of a growl, but zero barking. And every Saturday, we take him to this doggy daycare place where he gets to play with other dogs the whole day and then eventually get a bath. And so there are some barkers there, some dogs that are real barky. And every once in a while, we’ll take him there, we pick him up, and he’s barking. Literally, this dog does not bark at all. But he kind of surrounded himself with other dogs, not necessarily that he wanted to be like, but then he surrounded himself, where then he picked up their habits, right. That’s why it’s important. And I’m not saying . . . you could pick up bad habits by being around the wrong people too, right. So you make sure you’re around the right people, and you’ll start to pick up their habits.
So everything I do in my life and everything I do for other people, including hosting the Investor Fuel Mastermind for real estate investors, all my coaching programs, we pull people together in communities and we share ideas and we network and we kind of mastermind on what’s working now, because that is how most people learn and grow. Some of it is conscious. You think about, “Well, I want to do more like that.” And some of it, like my dog, Max, is just subconscious. You just can’t help but bark a little bit more when you’re around the big dogs. Does that make sense? So get around the big dogs a little bit more.
